At the behest of US Secretary John D.Long , Commodore George Dewey 's gumbo sailed from Mirs Bay near Hong Kong to the Philippines. Using the Battle cry "Remember the Maine" they defeated the Spanish Navy in under Admiral Patricio Montojo in Manila Bay on May 1,1898. This event is called the Battle Of Manila Bay.
