Explanation:
An important event eventually led to the American-Spanish War. It was the explosion of the ship MAINE of the USA , off the coast of Havana in Cuba, on February 15, 1898. It killed about 246 people. Although there was no ambush, the US blamed Spain for the incident and signaled the formal declaration of US war with Spain on APRIL 25,1898.
At the behest of US Secretary John D.Long , Commodore George Dewey 's gumbo sailed from Mirs Bay near Hong Kong to the Philippines. Using the Battle cry "Remember the Maine" they defeated the Spanish Navy in under Admiral Patricio Montojo in Manila Bay on May 1,1898. This event is called the Battle Of Manila Bay.
