A Day with Cecil
(By ivay Shynne J. Torralba)
Sometimes friends hate you for insisting what you think is right. But my friend,
Cecil, stayed by my side when my other friends banned me from the group. Cecil
saw everything that had happened. My fierce look and scandalous mouth was
really a turn-off. I was really ashamed of myself for being so righteous. My friends
gave me those sarcastic brows and disappointed faces after I have said bad and
unforgivable things about them. My guilt was really eating me whole. So, I turned
my back and walked. I was really shocked to see that Cecil walked with me. We
went somewhere far from them. We climbed on a big tree and sat on its branch.
We only talked about the insects that bit our legs and played with them. She
picked a fruit and opened it. Its seeds were green and their shapes were like tears.
She said that we could eat them but I doubted her. So she ate them first before I
tried it. It tasted good and I liked it! Without notice she jumped from the branch
and landed on the ground like a pro. She told me that she was going to make a
swing. I courageously jumped and stood right next to her. We cleaned the empty
sack and used the vines from the tree as ropes. The vines were already tightly
attached from the tree which made it easy for us to make the swing. We enjoyed
playing with it. It made me totally forgot the quarrel I had with my other friends.
When it was my turn to play with the swing I saw my other friends looking at us. I
looked at Cecil. She smiled and gestured at me. I understood that she wanted me
to make peace with them by letting them try the swing. I jumped from the swing,
held the vine and awkwardly invited them to try it. I was afraid that they might
decline my offer. But I was wrong instead, they excitedly ran and tried it. Then
they said "How did you make this alone?" I gave them a confusing look. I searched
for Cecil but she was nowhere. While my friends were playing with the swing,
realized a lot of things.
I sighed and told myself "Yes, I did not say sorry but I was really sorry. They
did not say that they had forgiven me but I know I was forgiven. I really had a great
day with Cecil but it is time to live in the real world." I have realized that to show
kindness is much more important than to insist what we think is right.1.Who is Cecil?2.What did they used to make a swing?3.What kind of friend is Cecil?4.
