Solid food items ,not liquids or gels,can be transported in either your carry-on or checked baggage.Whereas in cinemas,from a market standpoint, of course, movie theaters would prefer customers not to bring their own food and drink. Selling food generates money for them, and they don't want their revenue to be impacted.
