Not often enough. Last year I was coming home from work and noticed an old lady wandering the train station. It was 3am and she asked where she could get some breakfast. I told her nothing was open. Okay she says I’ll wait. Just help me get to the platform and I’ll buy a paper. She was trembling, hands shaking and I don’t think her eyesight was very good as her eyes were cloudy. I put her in the lift and walked away.
It was the worst thing i have ever done to turn my back on someone in need. I called the local police station when I got home but I can never forgive myself for not doing more to help her. We walk past homeless people and beggars everyday and don’t even blink but this was unforgivable on my part and nothing I do for the rest of my days will take away my shame. All the good intentions in the world mean nothing without action
