Answer:
I think there are a lot of good things to learn from Americans. Having done some traveling and having talked to people from all around the world, I think the rest of the world could learn from a few of these things.
Good customer service: This is not exclusive to America but I would definitely say it was perfected here. American companies like Amazon have become so popular because they shift their focus onto the customer and what they want. Everyone wants to make money but not everyone is willing to do what it takes to serve not just themselves but the customer. A lot of people criticize this calling it “fake” and to a certain extent, I agree. However having worked in many different jobs, I have found that just talking to the client and making them feel appreciated and heard goes a really long way.
A better highway system: In the United States we do have toll roads and turnpikes especially in the east. That being said, we do have a mostly free highway system that covers pretty much the entire country. I have been in the middle of nowhere and been happily surprised at the newly paved roads. I’ve written about this before but it truly is an amazing system and not something every country has.
More options: One of the reasons there is still so much immigration to the United States is the wide variety of opportunity there is here. This goes not only for job opportunities but opportunity to meet people from around the world or try food from different countries. A lot of countries only offer a few options for their people. I think a more diversified economy and people can really help a country grow.
Marketing: The United States markets itself very well. Most people are familiar with our culture, landscapes, etc. This is unfortunately not the case for a lot of the world. I think countries should do more to promote themselves and their culture. It could mean serious foreign investment and tourist dollars in the future :)
A more open attitude: I think this is probably the biggest thing I would like to see in the rest of the world. As people it can be very hard to accept change or be criticized by our peers let alone the world at large. Instead of being defensive, governments can learn a lot not only from the wide variety of voices in our country but also the mistakes we’ve made. I think the U.S definitely has problems of its own but we try to learn from them rather than ignore them or sweep them under the rug. I think the rest of the world can learn from this by examining its past, listening to outside opinions, and looking towards the future.
