Chromatography - the separation of a mixture by passing it through a medium in which the components move at different rates.
Distillation - separation in which the components of a liquid mixture are vaporized and then condensed and isolated.
Evaporation - used to separate a soluble solid from a liquid by heating the mixture until no more liquid remains so the mixture should only contain one liquid component because all liquid components will evaporate over time.
Filtration - separates solids of different sizes using porous materials.
2. Mixtures must be separated to obtain pure substances for domestic purposes, industrial purposes and research work.
