The Role of Dance
"Dance, when you're broken open. Dance, if you've torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you're perfectly free." - Rumi
Dance is very common ritual across a multitude of cultures. It is a both a form of expression and an art. For the Igorots, they use it to mark the different stages of their life cycles. For instance, each cultural area has a different dance to represent mourning, wedding celebrations, the courtship process, or even ubiquitous activities like the role of a man and woman in society (i.e- women fetching pales of water from the lowlands). Dance is both a celebration, as well as a representation of everyday life. Here is another website that compiles together a list of famous dances by the Igorots.
