1. There are 40 pupils in a class. 75% of them are present. How many pupils are present? How many are absent?

2. In a Grade 6 class of 40 pupils, 36 pupils attended the Math Club meeting. What percent of the class attended the meeting?

3. Out of 50 pupils, only 48 joined the online Math class today. What percent of the
pupils joined the class?

4. In a Grade 6 class, 6 pupils received an A on their Quarterly Math test. This
is 20% of the number of pupils in her class. How many pupils are there in the class?

5. Andrea has P20 in his pocket which is only 5% of the money her sister has. How
much money does her sister have?​

1. There are 40 pupils in a class. 75% of them are present. How many pupils are present? How many are absent?

Solution:

40 x 0.75 = 30 pupils (present)

100% - 75% = 25% = 0.25 (percentage of absentees)

40 x 0.25 = 10 pupils (absent)

Answer:

There are 30 pupils that are present and 10 pupils that are absent

To check:

100 % = 40

30 ÷ 40 = 0.75 x 100 = 75%

10 ÷ 40 = 0.25 x 100 = 25%

2. In a Grade 6 class of 40 pupils, 36 pupils attended the Math Club meeting. What percent of the class attended the meeting?

Solution:

36 ÷ 40 = 0.9

0.9 x 100 = 90%

Answer:

90% of the class attended the meeting

To check:

100% = 40

0.90 x 40 = 36 pupils

3. Out of 50 pupils, only 48 joined the online Math class today. What percent of the  pupils joined the class?

Solution:

48 ÷ 50 = 0.96

0.96 x 100 = 96%

Answer:

96% of the pupils joined the class

To check:

100% = 50

0.96 x 50 = 48 pupils

4. In a Grade 6 class, 6 pupils received an A on their Quarterly Math test. This  is 20% of the number of pupils in her class. How many pupils are there in the class?

Solution:

6 ÷ 0.20 = 30

Answer:

There are 30 pupils in there class

To check:

20% = 6

30 x 0.2 = 6 pupils

5. Andrea has P20 in his pocket which is only 5% of the money her sister has. How  much money does her sister have?​

Solution:

100 ÷ 5 = 20

20 x 20 = 400

Answer:

Her sister have P400

To check:

5% = 20

400 x 0.05 = P20
