Medusa has not been portrayed sympathetically — at least not that that I know of. And if she has, then it is a modern twist.
The original myths simply depict her and her two sisters — all snake-haired Gorgons — as evil. Medusa is the only one of the three who is not immortal and that is how she comes to be slain by Perseus.
This is reminiscent of the triumph of the good self over the darker manifestation of the human spirit.
