You can use FOIL or the distributive method to solve. FOIL stands for first, out, in, last.
So,
2x2 (First terms)+2-√3(Outermost terms)+2√3(Innermost terms)+√3√-3(Last two terms).
The distributive method is when you break apart the terms in parenthesis. I’ll do the first one. This gives me 2(2-√3)+√3(2-√3).
Both give me the same answer. 4-0-√9, which gives me 1.

Formula is a^2-b^2=(a+b) (a-b)….. (2)
Comparing in eq. (1) and eq(2)
a=2, b=√3
So that
a^2-b^2= (2) ^2-(√3)^2
