That lilts in splendor, glitters in its charm;

Alas, it's christened with a sterner fame

By all the millions that it's brought to harm.

The ocean and the wind have raised a storm

That, like a missile, has been hurled to shore;

The world around all watched the gale transform

A country into ruins with its roar.

So helpless are we all, we mighty fools,

Who think ourselves far greater than the earth:

We go on blindly breaking nature's rules,

Incapable of salvaging our worth.

We watched in horror as this hurricane

Destroyed a realm --we could not mend their pain.

Probably not uplifting enough. However, so many of us watched in horror as this unfolded, and the fact that so many cared and still do care is, to my mind , a wonderful change for the human spirit to embrace.
