Answer:
With the implementation of ECQ due to the recent outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic last March 2020, people were forced to abide the rules of staying at their respective homes to hopefully reduce and slowed down the transmission of the said virus. Most businesses and workplaces were forced to close as well as different schools and institutions across nations. However students' education, specifically in the Philippines, continued despite the current situation of the nation through the application of new learning modes such as online classes, modular classes and sometimes a mixture of these two. Although this is a great decision to ensure that the students' studies shall not be delayed and halted, the quality of learning that the students are gaining is lesser than what they can possibly obtain during normal classes. For instance, STEM students deals with Practical Research in most of their semesters because it is one of the major subjects in their strand. Nevertheless, since students are not personally taught and handled by their instructors and research advisers, their lack of knowledge and experience in the field of research might affect their performance during the entire conduction of it. Furthermore, if their study requires human interaction, observation, in-depth interviews, house-to-house surveys for demographic profiling and going out to specific areas and communities, students will not be able to harness all the data and information that they will be needing for the accomplishment of their research study because of ECQ. A HUMSS student who is more of a visual learner than an aural or verbal learner will find it difficult to catch up with the information dumping during virtual discussions and learning at home since they personally prefer learning by observing, using images, diagrams and figures that helps them visualize information and understand it better. To sum it up, a lot of factors can determine how studying at home during ECQ impacts students' learning and how this affects their strand as well, but at the end of the day it will all depend to how persistent are the students to learn, how willing they are to step out of their comfort zones and outgrow the type students they were before.
