Ana, an aspiring biologist who believed that the immune system’s defense of the body against infections are rooted on its ability to distinguish self- molecules from non-self-molecules. Several immunologists have developed an alternative hypothesis: that the immune system’s effectiveness rest mostly on its ability to recognize damage to body tissues caused by the invaders not on ability to recognize non-self.
