- P+P = P [ex. 5+5 = 10]
- N+N = N [ex. (-5)+(-9) = -14]
- P+N => P-N = P [ex. 12+(-3) => 12-(-3) = 9]
- N+P => N-P = N [ex. (-9)+5 => (-9)-5 = -4]
When they have the same sign
(ex. p+p or n+n), just add them and copy the sign. If they have different sign (ex. n+p) subtract the two integers and copy the sign of the bigger number. In (-9)+5, 9 is bigger than 5. Since 9 is a negative number, then the sum will be negative.
In subtraction of integers, change the sign of the subtrahend to it's opposite sign and apply the rules of the addition of integers. In 7-5, the subtrahend is 5. Since 5 is a positive number, we will change it to a negative one and apply the rules of addition of integers.
7-5 => 7+(-5) = 2
