She is particularly known for incorporating indigenous Filipino instruments into orchestral productions. Her compositional style demonstrated a fusion of Eastern and Western styles in using instruments, melody, harmony and rhythm.
Lucrecia Roces Kasilag was born in San Fernando, La Union, in 1918 and studied at the Philippine Women's University and at St. Scholastica's College before further study at Eastman School of Music. She occupied a leading position in music in the Philippines as a composer, a teacher, a writer and an administrator.
