BiblePSALM 121:7-8
Posted July 29, 2015
[7] The LORD will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
[8] The LORD will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time forth and forevermore.
Psalm 121 concludes with a beautiful promise of the God who keeps. The word keep means “to guard, to watch over, or to attend to carefully.” This keeping was a reference to the protection of God over His people as they journeyed to Jerusalem but went far beyond that. It was a four-fold keeping:
He keeps us from evil.
He keeps our lives.
He keeps our going out and coming in.
He keeps us forever.
What a promise… In God, we have one who keeps us from ultimate evil! There’s no area of our life that’s not under His keeping or watchful eye. No matter the season, either going or coming, day or night, He is ever present to keep and hold. This keeping has no expiration date for it goes on forever and ever. What a beautiful way to close out this psalm of ascent. We lift our eyes to the hills and remember where our help comes from: from the LORD our keeper, and it’s this hope and truth that keeps us from this time forth and forevermore.
