Solar rays that reach the Earth’s surface at a vertical angle, or as near as possible, transfer MORE ENERGY to the ground than rays that have traveled at more oblique angles. This is for the simple reason that vertical rays have passed through LESS of the earth’s atmosphere where the solar radiation has been absorbed (reduced).
