Hotarubi no Mori e tells a story of a young girl named Hotaru and her friendship with Gin. A strange young man wearing a mask, who she meets at the age of six when she was lost in the mountain forest. Hotaru learns that her friend is supernatural and that touching Gin will cause him to disappear forever. Hotaru returns every summer to spend time with Gin, and their relationship matures as both struggle with its limitations. The night ends in tragedy when Gin mistakenly touches a young boy who snuck into the spirit festival, though before he disappears, he and Hotaru embrace and confess their love for one another. The story ends with Hotaru accepting her pain and moving on with her life. The pain of losing your childhood friend and first love really hurt like hell.

One of the anime that really made me cried a lot, following Anohana & Angel Beats. To be honest, I didn't expect a 44 minute movie to be like this. My first expectation before watching the film is to be like, 5 Centimeter Per Second! A very simple and clean plot, yet the beauty in it lies within.
