Explanation
Ipinanawagan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa Kongreso na palawigin ang batas militar hanggang sa katapusan ng taong 2017.
Sa isang sulat na isinumite ng pangulo sa Kongreso, sinabi niyang kailangang palawigin hanggang Disyembre 31, 2017 ang batas militar dahil hindi tuluyang magugupo ang rebelyon sa Mindanao sa Hulyo 22 na huling araw ng 60-day martial law period.
"For this reason and because public safety requires it, I call upon the Congress to extend until 31st December 2017 or for such a period of time as the Congress may determine the proclamation of martial law and the suspension of the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus in the whole of Mindanao," pagbasa ni Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella sa sulat ng pangulo.
