one of the elements of creative writing is theme-- which goes with plot. this form of writing is based on one's imagination, hence called creative writing. although it's technically a free form of writing, theme is still important. writing cliche plots and themes might ruin or make the readers lose interest in your writing, which is obviously a bad thing. you have to think carefully about what you want to write, whats your purpose in writing, what you want the readers to learn, or what theme's does your target readers would prefer.
