the biosphere is a closed system. the amount of matter, the earth and water from millions of years ago is the same as it is now. however, it is also an open system because it gets energy from the sun. sunlight.
in regards to the question, I'm not sure because for the biosphere to exist, for life to exist, it needs sunlight energy, however, since earth is basically closed system. (at least, it is considered to be)
I still don't understand the question though. are the scientists trying to create a planet? biosphere is the planet. I'm not sure how they'll mimic that.
but I guess just answer C. as a close system, there won't be reduction and addition of matters. and they *should* be able to do that.
