Sagot :
《Answer》
It's 28 1/2
《Step-by-step explanation》
Multiplying mixed number by a whole number
Given: 4 3/4 × 6 = N
STEP 1 - Convert or change the mixed fraction into improper fraction and rename the whole number as 6/1, take note all of the whole numbers has a denominator of 1.
4 3/4 × 6 = 19/4 × 6/1 = N
By getting the improper fraction, just multiply ( ×/.) the whole number by the denominator and product plus (+) numerator, then the sum will become the numerator and just copy the original denominator which is 15/4.
Whole number × Denominator + Numerator = New Numerator and copy the original denominator.
STEP 2 - Multiply the numerator and denominator, you can use cancelation method or long method.
Cancelation: 19/4 × 6/1 = 19/2 × 3/1 = 57/2
STEP 3 - Since the answer is improper fraction, you need to covert it into mixed fraction. Just divide the denominator and the numerator then, the quotient will be the whole number while the remainder will be the numerator and lastly the divisor will be the denominator.
57 ÷ 2 = 28 r.1
Therefore, the final answer is 28 1/2
The solution is in the picture
Explanation of Long method and Cancelation method :
Cancelation Method: You're going to cancel the numerator and denominator you're going to pair-up then, find their GCF and divide, after that if there's a numerator and denominator has a common common factor, just repeat the steps, after that multiply the numerator by numerator and denominator by denominator and you don't need to simplify it because you used Cancelation method.
(Note: always pair-up the numerator and denominator only.)
Long Method: Multiply the numerator by numerator and denominator by denominator, then simplify if possible, by simplifying, find the GCF of the product and divide it, after that encircle your final answer.
Additional Knowledge:There are 3 things you should know if the fraction is in the lowest term.
- If the numerator is 1 it's automatically in the lowest term.
Ex. 1/2, 1/4, 1/5, 1/9, 1/3
- If the numerator and denominator are consecutive numbers and;
Ex. 2/3, 6/7, 9/10, 13/14, 20/21
- If the numerator and denominator has no common factors.
Ex. 19/27, 37/50, 2/9, 6/11, 4/9
(Note: always simplify and if possible and encircle your final answer.)
