1. Why would geologists need seismic data from three stations in order to calculate the epicenter of an earthquake? Why would they not be able to only use two stations?
Because if you only have one or two station you can't use the Triangulation Method. The Triangulation Method requires three different station in order to locate the earthquake epicenter.
