If given a chance, will you replace our manufactured medicines to herbal medicines? Why or Why not?

Answer:

I wouldn't replace our manufactured medicines with herbal medicines and just use whatever is more effective on a specific illness. Herbal treatments are plant-based and therefore have no artificial chemicals. But that does not necessarily make them safer. Many herbs are toxic to humans in various ways, sometimes fatally. There are not enough double-blind studies proving the efficacy of herbs for various illnesses and conditions, whereas conventional medications are usually subjected to extensive testing before being available to the general public. In addition, there is very little oversight as to standardization in formulation since herbs are considered to be supplements, which are not regulated. Unfortunately, in the rush to make many drugs available, testing is not continued for a long enough time period to detect long-term side effects. This would be virtually impossible to accomplish. Herbal medicines, on the other hand, are available over-the-counter and, because they are not ordered by a health care provider nor dispensed by a pharmacist, may not be taken in a proper and safe dosage. Relying on internet advice as to dosage is rife with danger.

If a person is fortunate enough to have a health care provider who is very knowledgeable about herbal and alternative medicine, that is the best possible situation.
