When a bar magnet brought close to or touching, the first iron nail makes the first iron nail capable to attract and lift the second nail and another or so. It only depends on the magnet's strength. There will be no reaction between the two iron nails when you bring them close or even if they are touching each other. -If the one of the nails is magnetized, then the two nails will be attracted to each other.
