A lot of insects, mayflies for instance, metamorphose to their adult form without a functioning gut. They live only as long as their energy reserves hold out, a day or two at most.

But that is long as they need to live, just long enough to mate and lay their eggs & claim the only sort of immortality an animal ever can, that of their species.

The catch is that lots of predators want to eat them before they get even that short chance, & that is why there is no point living longer. Natural selection has modified them to get on with job ASAP because that was that is the only way that worked for them. Once the eggs are laid & posterity secured the body is redundant so RIP.
