What are Seimic Waves? Explain in 5 answers. Thank you.

Sagot :

Seismic waves are low-frequency acoustic waves that flow through the Earth's layers as a result of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, magma migration, huge landslides, and large man-made explosions.

What are Seismic waves?

  • Seismic waves are waves of energy that travel through Earth's layers, and are a result of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, magma movement, large landslides and large man-made explosions that give out low-frequency acoustic energy. Seismic waves are usually generated by movements of the Earth's tectonic plates but may also be caused by explosions, volcanoes and landslides. When an earthquake occurs shockwaves of energy, called seismic waves, are released from the earthquake focus. It is caused by the sudden movement of materials within the Earth, such as slip along a fault during an earthquake. This wave are more dangerous than P-waves because they have greater amplitude and produce vertical and horizontal motion of the ground surface.
