For me, I need to tell my friend about it because they're the one who's being targeted ,I'll say it but not in a bad or threatening way, I'll calmly explain them the situation and immediately say that they should avoid that person, or have a proper talk with the person.
Explanation:
Why not quarreling with the one who criticized my friend? Because there's a lot of possibilities that the fight will go big, and the one who told ill on my friend, will have their madness on them grow more or maybe do things that are beyond the line.
