Literature plays an important role in the Filipino Revolution. The Spanish rulers did not understand the Filipinos and were trying to impose their culture on them. They wanted to make sure that the Filipinos would never rebel against them again. One way that they tried to do this was by forcing all Filipino children to learn only the Spanish language and to teach other languages to foreign visitors. This angered many Filipinos and gave rise to the Philippine Revolution. Without books written in the Philippines, the revolution could not have taken place.
