Three Words of Strength
by Friedrich von Schiller
There are three lessons I would write,
Three words as with a burning pen,
In tracings of eternal light
Upon the hearts of men.
Have hope. Though clouds environ round
And gladness hides her face in scorn,
Put off the shadows from thy brow,
No night but hath its morn.
Have faith. Where'er thy bark is driven,
The calm's disport, the tempest's mirth,
Know this: God rules the hosts of heaven,
The inhabitants of earth.
Have love. Not love alone for one
But man, as man thy brothers call,
And scatter like a circling sun,
Thy charities on all.

ANNOTATION

1) I believe that the three words of strength are hope, faith, and love. This became clear to me after reading Friedrich von Schiller's poem.

2) What are the three lessons that the author describes in the poem? That is the first question that occurs to me.

3) I was motivated to never lose hope as I read the poem. Even on the darkest nights, there is always a ray of light.

4) It encouraged me to believe in myself. We should never blame God for what happens in our lives because I believe everything happens for a reason.

5) It instilled in me the will to love. Not only do we need to love ourselves, but we also need to love our neighbors.
