- Jane went straight to her room looking for the locket. She searched her drawers and her boxes of books and toys. She 2 turned her bed over and removed the sheets. She has yet to accept that she lost the one gift that her late father ever gave her.

- The number of calories that your body needs depends on how much energy you use up. Strenuous activities like swimming and bicycling require more calories. Sedentary activities, on the other hand, like reading and typing, demand less calories.

- Blue whales are the largest animals in the world. Adult blue whales may grow up to a hundred feet long and weigh about a hundred tons. They feed on tiny shrimp-like animals. Baby blue whales gain about 200 pounds a day.

- At five o'clock before dawn, the buses in Manila rush along the highway, packed with people all wide awake. Cars whir along. impatient over red stoplights. People wave jeepneys to stop for them or run across the street regardless of the streaming traffic around them. Manila is a really busy city.
