The term “nationalism” in general is used to delineate two phenomena:
First is the attitude or behaviour that the members of a nation have when they care about their national identity, and second is the actions that the members of a nation take when seeking to achieve or sustain self-determination.
Nationalism has been a part of the history of every Filipino. Nationalism is not just a sentiment but also a political concept that can be organized into various categories such as liberal, civic, ethnic or cultural. The emphasis in the words "every Filipino" is a means to widely acknowledge all the Filipinos not just Filipinos from Luzon but also Filipinos from Visayas and Mindanao.
