Electricity generates magnetism and on the other hand magnetism generates electricity. Changing electric field creates magnetism and changing magnetic field creates electricity. The idea of electric generator is to change the magnetic field which are the magnets of the dynamo spinning around which generates electricity. If you reverse the process, applying battery to the dynamo will also spin it thereby changing the magnetic field of the magnet inside.
