Answer

Digestive System

It is a system of organs "responsible" for taking, breaking, and absorbing nutrients from the food you eat. It is crucial for your day-to-day tasks and growth. The following organs are the parts (or components) of the digestive tract.

  • Mouth: The journey of the food begins here. The mouth, together with the salivary glands located on the upper and lower section of your jaws, the food breaks into smaller pieces and softens. Then, the softened food enters your esophagus.
  • Esophagus: This is a tunnel or the passageway for the food you eat before it reaches your stomach.
  • Stomach: This organ is a big muscular sack that squeezes the food you eat. It also releases enzymes to break the food into much smaller pieces. Then, the food, now called as chyme (a combination of food and acid juices), moves towards your intestines.
  • Intestines: You have two types of intestines - the small and large intestines. These were the areas wherein the absorption of the nutrients and water from the food into your bloodstream happens. When nutrients and water are gone, the undigested parts will harden and go to your rectum, which leads to your anus, before being expelled from your body as feces (waste material).
